Pluto Transformed: On Pluto's
Reclassification
By Risa D'Angeles
August, 2006
On August 24, 2006 somewhere at a
table in Prague (Czech republic, central Europe,
beautiful countryside, fine wines, originally part of and
looks like Austria) 425 astronomers, on the last day of
their international meeting, voted on two items: 1) the
definition of a planet, and 2) to re-categorize Pluto
(tiny, spherical and within Neptune's orbit) as a "dwarf"
or "minor" planet due to not falling under the new
definition and characteristics of "planet". So in one
momentous decision the potency of Pluto, 9th rock from
the Sun and planet of transformation was swept away.
A backlash against these decision
has begun especially the decision (controversial) of
stripping Pluto, god of the underworld (and who else can
adequately do his job), of its planet-hood.
Pluto Forewarns
Pluto's discovery in 1930
forewarned humanity that a dark and dreaded evil would
sweep the world in the form of W.W.II and Hitler).
Resistance to both the definition and the demotion of
Pluto came swiftly calling the decisions "hijacked,
embarrassing, sloppy science, inconsistent and a
contrivance to place a dividing line between planets and
dwarf planets." Some have already asked: "What's next to
be demoted? Earth?"
The subject of Pluto is not closed
and though many are surprised at Pluto's seeming
"demotion", astrologers aren't fazed. We know who and
what Pluto, it's influence of potency, no matter what the
425 astronomers decided. Astrology came before astronomy.
Newest bumper sticker reads "Honk if Pluto's still a
planet." Honk!
Focus & Attention
Tension upon something brings one
to attention. Whatever humanity focuses on has a purpose.
Whatever humanity focuses on has a purpose. This focus
brings our attention to some myth or process or new
growth, preparing us for a change that is occurring on
our planet and within humanity itself.
There has been worldwide attention
upon the planet Pluto, god of the underworld, of death
and destruction and creation. Pluto represents death of
desire so that liberation can occur
the liberation
of the Soul rising, resurrecting out of matter. Pluto is
the agent of the death of our desires so that continual
rebirth ceases. Pluto is the Soul ruler of Pisces, the
world savior. When there is focus and attention upon
Pluto all these energies are also brought to our
attention. Pluto serves as the vehicle of Ray 1 energy,
the prerequisite and needed energy of destruction (before
creation).
Pluto's Influences
Pluto breaks down selfishness and
separateness of the personality so that our little
personal wills gradually, over time and very slowly,
reorient to the Will to Good. Pluto is a purifying
energy. It leads to the disintegration of form so the
Spirit of humanity (Life itself) may triumph. The passion
and death and resurrection of the Christ over 2000+ years
ago is our path and passion, death and resurrection also.
These are the characteristic, qualities and attributes of
Pluto. Humanity's (and astronomers') focus on Pluto
brings all the characteristics and influences of Pluto
into view and these affect our inner realities.
We must also remember Pluto is Soul
ruler of Pisces, which is the right arm of the mutable
cross, the cross of experience. There is a transference
of energy from Scorpio/Pluto on personality level to
Pisces/Pluto ruler on Soul level. It is interesting at
this time concerning Pluto location and position:
1. Retrograde at 24 Sag
and thus close to the Galactic Center of 26-27 degrees
Sag (where original information originates from the
Sag Lords.
2. Square (90 degrees) the north
node in Pisces (Pluto rules Pisces on Soul level) and
the south node in Virgo. The north node signifies
where we're going (present/future) and south node
signifies where we've been, the way it used to be but
is no longer). This is most interesting in the light
of the "downsizing" of Pluto.
3. Recently squared by Mars
(Mars and Pluto are the rulers of Scorpio
On the emotional level the breaking
down and detaching from matter and form is most painful.
This is the sacrifice (Pisces) the personality (Pluto on
personality level) renders out of love to the Soul (Pluto
as Soul ruler of Pisces.
Transforming Self
Well now Pluto, it seems, has
actually transformed himself into something else. The big
guy from the underworld powerful enough to kidnap
Persephone from Ceres (nurturing principle) her mother
thus causing the world to wither. Perhaps this "change of
signature" is good. Pluto now can be the leader of the
feminine pack of "trans-Neptunian" planets -- Ceres
(motherly love, mother of Persephone and of gardens and
horticulture, also largest asteroid) and Zena (warrior
princess) and of Charon, son of Darkness (Erebus) and
Night (Nyx) and boatman who ferries the dead over the
rivers Acheron & Styx. One must place a penny or coin
(obulus) under the tongue of the dead one. Also known as
the Angel of Death, Charon is a moon of Pluto, who itself
is the God of Death and Transformation. A potent
combination of "dwarf" or "minor" planets, indeed.
Perhaps they hold a secret hidden in the outer garments
of what we would consider obscure titles. It seems so.
On the 30th of August, 2006 (this
week) Mars at 24 Virgo joining South node in Virgo at 25
degrees was square Pluto at 24 Sag retrograde. The
combination of 1st Ray Pluto with 6th ray Mars leads to
the battlegrounds associated with the water sign Scorpio
(sign of the disciple in training). The south node (past,
no longer useful) involved in this tells us something
from the past reoccurs in order to move it forward and
transform (Pluto) it. Ancient wars?
Ancient Commentary
What occurs above occurs here, too.
The sky is our textbook of Life. There is an ancient
commentary
"The ancient One (personality,
Dweller) dies by drowning.
Waters envelop him and there is no
escape.
The fires of passion are then
quenched.
The life of desire ceases its
appeal and to the bottom of the lake he now descends.
Later he re ascends to Earth where
white horse (Sag) awaits his coming
And this he mounts proceeding to
2nd death (Pisces).
The ancient one (personality
Dweller) is no longer seen.
He sinks to depths of ocean of
life, descends into hell.
But the gates of hell hold him not.
He, the new, living One (Initiate)
leaves below that which has held
him down throughout the ages
and rises from the depth unto the
heights close to the throne of God."
Fun with Mnemonics or Is Eight
Enough?
When in school many of us learned
the planetary order of the solar system by remembering
the mnemonic My Excellent Mother Served Us Nine Pickles.
The word ""Pickles was for Pluto the 9th planet from the
Sun, and Pluto the planet is alas, is no more. The god of
the underworld and of transformation has been delegated
as a "minor" or "dwarf" planet according to the
International Astronomical Union who, sitting around a
table in Prague somewhere this week, voted on an official
definition of a planet (Pluto doesn't meet the
requirements) and created a sub group of planets (dwarfs)
of which Pluto (previous planet), Ceres (asteroid),
Chiron (planetoid), Charon (Pluto's moon) and Zena now
belong.
So now the mnemonic of nine
(planets) changing to the mnemonic of eight (for the
classical planets) can read "My Educated Mother Served Us
Nectarines" (or, Nuts, Nori, Neem, Noodles, Nasturtiums,
Naan, or Niacin, whatever one's cultural food emphasis
is). If Mickey Mouse enthusiasts we know that Walt Disney
named his rowdy and playful cartoon character dog Pluto
after the planet and we associated Pluto, the
dog-always-in-trouble with the 9th planet from the Sun
which always seemed to bring not only trouble to our
lives but utter and complete transformation as well. We
feel like we're dying with Pluto transits. Actually our
personality does with Pluto so we actually are (dying).
Astrologers Pay Attention to the
Affects of Pluto
But what does the declassification
of Pluto mean to the astrological and esoteric community?
At present, nothing. It seems there are four
classifications of planets that all well educated
astrologers understand. We all know that the
personality/terrestrial planets are (Sun & Moon),
Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Earth. The "big guys", social
and transpersonal planets are Jupiter, Saturn. The
trans-personal planets are Uranus and Neptune, and the
trans-Neptunian are Pluto, Chiron, Charon and #2003 UB313
also known as Zena, an icy thing out there somewhere.
We all knew that Pluto resided most
of the time outside of Neptune. But astrologers and
students of astrology (all observers) have, since Pluto's
discovery in 1930, paid attention to the affects
(transits) of Pluto and although it is a very small
celestial body (planet), Pluto has the power to create
such extraordinary change and to exercise such influence
and power (Ray 1) that we know Pluto is indeed
"transpersonal" (beyond the personal will and in the
skies, beyond Neptune most of the time).
Pluto moves slowly. Thus, over
extremely slow and lengthy periods of time (12-17 years
in one sign), Pluto creates such transformations in our
lives (upheavals) that it forces us to surrender our
little wills to a greater Will than is ours alone. This
is the power of Ray 1. This is also the force and purpose
of Pluto and this process itself cannot be "dwarfed,"
considered "minor" or downgraded simply because
astronomers no longer classify it as a planet. Pluto
cannot be "demoted" in terms of its potency or power.
We remember that Ray 1 (thus Pluto)
comes in between the ages and destroys what is no longer
viable for the new age to function properly. Pluto does
this with our personality. What is no longer viable for
the Soul's use, in order to evolve and in order to serve
humanity. Pluto is the planet that brings change,
temporary darkness, and death in order to bring about a
new state of consciousness. Being Ray 1, Pluto frees the
individual from constant desire for form and matter. The
individual then is able to be more closely in touch with
the consciousness (Soul) aspect of Life.
What we focus on in the heavens,
when something new occurs, means there is something we
must focus upon within humanity and on the Earth. There
is therefore a synchronicity occurring here. For always
"what is above is also what is below." For those who have
"eyes" to see and minds to comprehend. Our attention upon
this issue will reveal itself in time. In the meantime,
for astrologers, especially esoteric ones, Pluto remains
one of the most important transforming agents in the
heavens. It's still the personality ruler of Scorpio and
Soul ruler of Pisces. It's still Ray 1, the Finger of
God, destroying the old to make room for the new Aquarian
laws and principles, the Reappearance of the Christ, and
the coming new order, culture and civilization.
Astrological pondering: Pluto is
demoted because it's within the orbit of Neptune
(seemingly not having one of its own). According to the
voting astronomers and definers of a planet, a "true"
planet cannot be within another planet's orbit. This week
Saturn (structure) is opposing Neptune (dissolving).
Saturn is structure and it's orbit that seems to be
affecting the categorizing of Pluto. Saturn takes things
away sometimes. Saturn is "taking away" from Neptune its
very own trans-Neptunian planet. But because Saturn is
opposite Neptune in the sky (on the 31st of August, six
days after the vote to demote Pluto), it's possible that
Neptune will dissolve the vote due to an outcry from
everywhere (oppositions mean "over there somewhere.")
We'll see.
